Aesthetics & Injectables

What are injectable cosmetic treatments?

There are three main types of injectable cosmetic treatments:

1. Neurotoxin injections: soften your expression; smooth fine lines and wrinkles
2. Dermal fillers: fill in wrinkles and lines
3. Kybella: diminishes fat beneath the chin

What are neurotoxin treatments?

Neurotoxin treatments, better known by their brand names Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, are most commonly used to smooth dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movements, such as crow’s feet or smile lines. The injected neurotoxins block nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them to relax and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

What are dermal fillers?

While neurotoxins relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, dermal fillers restore volume and fill in wrinkles. Many of these fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which helps plump and hydrates your skin, and those with poly-L-lactic acid help rebuild your body’s natural collagen.

At Malibu Faces, the team offers a variety of dermal fillers:

Juvéderm®

Each product in the Juvederm collection is designed to add volume to a different area of the face.

Fillers include:

• Juvederm Ultra Plus XC®: parentheses lines around the mouth and nose

• Voluma®: adds volume to the cheeks

• Volbella®: lip lines

• Vollure®: moderate to severe facial lines

Restylane

Restylane products are clear gels formulated to fulfill a specific purpose, including:Fillers include:

• Restylane Lyft: cheek augmentation

• Restylane Refyne: smooths lines next to your mouth• Restylane Silk: lip augmentation

Sculptra®

Sculptra doesn’t just fill wrinkles temporarily. Instead, it helps to gradually replace lost collagen, working with your body over the course of treatment — usually 3-4 months — to restore volume and diminish wrinkles.

Radiesse®

Radiesse adds volume and stimulates your body to produce collagen. It can be used to treat facial wrinkles and to restore volume to the backs of your hands.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, which helps your body break down and absorb fat in the food you eat. A Kybella treatment breaks down the fat under your chin, called submental fat, destroying the fat cells. Treatments are permanent, though most patients require 3-6 treatments to get the desired results. Kybella does have possible side effects, including bruising, swelling, or numbness, and it is typically recommended that you wait several weeks between treatments.
